MY FIVE TOP TIPS FOR HAPPY KIDS AT PHOTOSHOOTS…

Here are my top tips for prepping your little ones for a session with me or any other photographer too:

1. Talk to the kids with relaxed, low key references, say something like ‘We are going to have some fun and play some games with Rebecca today, and she’s going to take some pictures for us to keep’ Just let them know they are going to meet someone new, but that they will have a super fun time as well. Start a week or so before hand and keep mentioning it.

Happy Happy!

2. Make it an extra special day… Perhaps book something special as a reward after - something to encourage and keep the energy up. Maybe go get cake or ice cream as a treat, a favourite activity or meeting a friend works well, and will make the day extra memorable for you all.

Cuddles and Tickles are a fave at the session!

3. Role Play… Practice makes perfect, play out taking pictures of each other at home during the week before your session, let the little ones take your picture too and get them to pose you too. Make it fun and take it in turns.

4. Choose the right time slot… Be sure to choose the time of day your little one will be happiest, factor in their usual nap times, and that they have had meals and snacks if needed to keep them happy!

Always lots of fun!

5. Bribery… Ultimately this works really really well! But don’t worry about have to bring anything, I prep and provide a little box of treats and stickers to hand out at then end of the session, works every time!!

The infamous treat (ahem bribery) box!

And just a couple of things to try to avoid…

1. Stressing! This is totally unnecessary. It’s going to be tons of fun I promise! And I will guide you the entire time, so there is nothing you need to worry about.

2. Rushing, give yourself plenty of time to get ready and not rush. Don’t worry about being too early or a couple of mins late. I’d rather you all arrive happy than rushing.

3. Worrying how the kids may act, there is no pressure - once we start the session we have time to settle, time to get to know each other a little, and to explore our surroundings together. Just relax as little ones can really pick up on how you are feeling. Honestly you’ll all be naturals!!
